
Olivia Drewniak, a senior at Morse High School and Woolwich resident, won the 2025-2026 VFW Voice of Democracy first-place national award with her audio essay on "How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?" She was awarded a $35,000 scholarship. Each year, nearly 28,000 ninth through 12th grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1.6 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program. Olivia was sponsored by the Bath ME, VFW Post 7738 and is the first student from Maine to ever win this top honor. This four-day, immersive experience allows students to participate in mock congressional debates, participate in a free enterprise challenge, visit historical sites, and engage in interactive educational activities. Olivia has been invited to present her audio essay to thousands of Veterans at the 127th VFW National Convention, which will be held in Reno, Nevada, from July 25-29, 2026.![]()
